Foreclosures Up In Ohio

clark.donley@columbusradiogroup.com

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The latest report shows the home foreclosure rate in Ohio increased in October while the number of Americans at risk of losing their homes was falling.

Ohio had the nation's 12th highest foreclosure rate in October, with a foreclosure notice going to one out of every 435 homes, according to RealtyTrac.

The foreclosure rate increased by 6.52 percent from September, while the number of U.S. homeowners on the brink of losing their homes fell.

The RealtyTrac numbers show the third straight monthly decline as foreclosure prevention programs have been coming to the rescue of more borrowers.

Even so, foreclosure filings are up 19 percent from a year ago and continued job losses continue to threaten the stabilizing trend.

In Ohio, the rate was 3.8 percent lower than a year ago.

Nationwide, more than 332,000 households -- or one in every 385 homes -- received a foreclosure-related notice last month.
